Ghana Youth, Why? – Chapter 2: A Call to Change

Introduction: What Is Happening to the Youth?

Why, Ghana Youth? What is happening to us? Every day, we hear of young lives lost—14, 15, 16, 18 years old—gone too soon. This isn’t how it was meant to be.

In the past, people lived long, honorable lives, growing to 80, 90, even 100 years because they lived righteously. But today, things are different.

What Went Wrong?

Disrespect for the Elderly

  • Youth today often fail to honor their parents, elders, and authority figures.
  • The Bible says in Exodus 20:12:
"Honor your father and mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you."
  • Disrespecting elders is shortening our lives without us even realizing it.

Bad Friendships and Peer Pressure

  • Many young people surround themselves with the wrong crowd.
  • These bad influences lead to:
    • Drinking
    • Smoking
    • Teenage pregnancy
    • Quick money schemes
  • 1 Corinthians 15:33 warns:
“Do not be deceived: bad company corrupts good character.”
  • Choosing the wrong friends can destroy your life.

Quick Money and Greed

  • The love for quick wealth has led many astray.
  • Fraud, theft, and illegal activities are becoming more common.
  • Proverbs 13:11 reminds us:
“Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it.”
  • Quick money may seem tempting, but it only leads to regret and destruction.

Lack of Seriousness

  • Today’s youth don’t value education or hard work.
  • Too much time is spent on distractions like:
    • Parties
    • Nightclubs
    • Worldly pleasures
  • Matthew 7:13 warns:
“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.”
  • Distractions are leading youth down the wrong path.

A Message of Hope

It is not too late to change! God’s arms are always open to receive us.

  • Start valuing your life.
  • Respect your elders.
  • Focus on your education.
  • Choose good friendships.

The Bible says in 2 Chronicles 7:14:
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

A Prayer for the Youth

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father,
I pray for every young person reading this. Protect us from the traps of the enemy. Give us wisdom to make the right choices and strength to turn away from sin. Teach us to honor our elders, value our lives, and draw closer to You.

Father, let Your blood cover every youth in Ghana and beyond. Let no weapon formed against us prosper. May we live long, purposeful lives according to Your will. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.

A Final Call

Young people, your life is precious.

  • Do not waste it on things that will destroy you.
  • Return to God.
  • Value your education.
  • Honor your elders.
  • Choose the right path.
